Steppin’ Out Magazine said of the release “Whalen’s voice has more than enough power to carry a rock anthem, but she prefers to use that power to sustain her gentler, more pensive moments. Her pitch and articulation &#8211; vocal and instrumental &#8211; are flawless.”</p>
<p><strong>Fri., Feb. 11 &#8211; </strong><strong>Allen Thompson with Don Gallardo<br />
</strong><a href="http://www.myspace.com/allenthompsonmusic" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://www.nowplayingnashville.com/sites/nowplayingnashville.com/images/event/440748645/thompson_medium_medium.jpg" alt="" width="120" height="179" /></a> <a href="http://www.myspace.com/dongallardo" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://api.ning.com/files/AGLY4ypSd2ka9f8A21coM6GaxTlHEGZNjIHqKxc9C*uQeiG-5EaJDrS6LTuBJo546ChAKqjLnFz7zMO66vO4X0UJFw4Xdqz9/dg_promo_1.jpg?width=183&amp;height=183&amp;crop=1%3A1" alt="" width="143" height="143" /></a><br />
Allen Thompson is a singer/songwriter from the backwoods.<br />

Mixing a healthy amount of musical chops, honest, and creative songwriting, powerful stage presence and well sung four-part harmonies, L Shape Lot creates an original and dynamic American sound based in country, rock, bluegrass and roots/folk music.</p>
<p><strong>Thursday Feb. 17 &#8211; NC 63</strong></p>
<p><strong>Fri., Feb. 18 - George Terry and the Zealots</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.myspace.com/borndreamin" target="_blank"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-347" title="L Shape Lot" src="http://townpumptavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/L-Shape-Lot-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="135" height="135" /></a> Zealots&#8217; songs deal with the always-touchy subjects of religion, taxes, and death (not to mention love). Lazy conformists beware of these sharp hooks which drop from the sky like vicious arch-angels.</p>
<p>.</p>
<p>.</p>
<p>.</p>
<p><strong>Sat., Feb. 19 - Blackfoot Gypsies<br />
</strong><a href="http://www.myspace.com/blackfootgypsies" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c2sopublic.reverbnation.com/CustomProfileModule/25855/image/RN-2.gif?1" alt="" width="132" height="132" /></a><br />
The Blackfoot Gypsies is the bombastic melding of Matthew Paige, singer/songwriter and guitar player, and Zack Murphy, tenured drummer from Nashville, TN. With the attitude and swagger of vintage country and rock lore from the past, the Blackfoot Gypsies is paving their path as one of America’s next contributors to the legacy of rock and roll!</p>
<p><strong>Tue., Feb. 22 - Patterson Barrett</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.myspace.com/pattersonbarrett" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://www.sxsemusic.com/Portals/0/Gallery/Album/37/P%20%20Barrett%20a.jpg" alt="" width="157" height="105" /></a><br />
After years of collaboration with other talented artists in every format imaginable, Barrett has found his own unique voice both as songwriter. He explores some of the aspects of dreams and other alternate realities of life and death that touch us all. He cites Neil Young and country-rock pioneers Poco and the Flying Burrito Brothers as his early influences, as well as soul stalwarts such as Sam and Dave, The Temptations, and Marvin Gaye.</p>

<h4><strong><strong><strong><strong>$1.50 Bud Light Special on Sundays<br />
$1 PBR Special on Mondays!</strong></strong></strong></strong></h4>
<p><strong><strong><strong><strong>Every Wednesday Night, beginning at 8:30, is </strong></strong>Open Mic Night with David Bryan!<br />
January 5, 12, 19, and 26<br />
</strong></strong></p>
<p><strong><strong>Sat., Jan. 1<br />
Leigh Glass Band<br />
<a href="http://www.myspace.com/leighglassmusic" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/20/m_4aedf46ee3f15cf04accff57e4d177be.jpg" alt="" width="170" height="228" /></a><br />
</strong></strong>Asheville-based blues troubadour Leigh Glass put the first lineup of her band together in 2003 to play Americana, Blues, and Rock.</p>
<p><strong>Fri., Jan. 7<br />
Travers Brothers</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.myspace.com/traversbrothersexperience" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/123/l_67b5e75e64f5462b9c7d109c6b1163f9.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="162" /></a><br />
It all started off as a jam session with two drummers in Josh&#8217;s garage&#8230; It eventually turned into their daily routine, and the rest is history. These guys are music historians, and in their spare time enjoy listening to music, and writing new material. With heavy inspiration from classic rock, blues, funk, reggae, and bluegrass, The Travers Brothers Band has established a musical style of their very own. Whether playing original songs, or cover songs, there is sure to be a little something for everyone!</p>
<p><strong>Sat., Jan 8</strong><br />
<strong>Satin Steel Jazz Ensemble</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.reverbnation.com/satinsteeljazzensemble" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c2so.reverbnation.com/data_public/photo/image/345/3454526/IMG_0797_1288214575.jpg?1" alt="" width="197" height="216" /></a><br />
Satin Steel is an acoustic jazz ensemble ranging from a duo to a seven-piece with vocals, upright bass, sax, piano, congas and flute and cello when possible. Originally from New York, Eve Haslam is the vocalist and visionary for Satin Steel. With years of classical training and raised by her composer father, creative influences were opera, Broadway, pop and jazz. Satin Steel delivers an intimate and intelligent mix of bossa, swing and jazz standards.</p>
<p><strong>Mon., Jan. 10<br />
Hilary Hawke</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.myspace.com/hilaryhawke" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/121/l_d7c50930cfdf42b39d5472255ec742cf.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="151" /></a><br />
&#8220;Hilary Hawke&#8217;s Goodwill is real music. From dark and delicious to fun and frantic, banjo babe Hawke has more personality in her little finger than most do in their large bodies,&#8221;-David Malachowski, reviewer Daily Freeman (Hudson Valley) 2009</p>
<p><strong>Fri., Jan. 14<br />
Bayou Diesel</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.myspace.com/bayoudiesel" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/54/l_fcb63103409974ab9773228ccbd5f076.jpg" alt="" width="290" height="120" /></a><br />
The only working cajun/zydeco/Louisiana style dance band in the Asheville/Western North Carolina area. We play all types of highly danceable Mardi Gras music at anytime of the year. Performing both traditional and progressive cajun and zydeco music, we also like good ol&#8217; rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and family friendly all-access approach to our shows. 2009 will bring changes and more emphasis on zydeco. Laissez les bon temps rouler!</p>
<p><strong>Sat., Jan. 15</strong><br />
<strong>Crowfield</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.myspace.com/crowfieldmusic" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/41/l_8c47a8d7c65246229e726e60dc041ece.jpg" alt="" width="173" height="259" /></a><br />
Crowfield&#8217;s journey to the national stage has been accompanied by breakups and breakdowns, tempered by successes and letdowns, and defined by the act of giving a little more when there was nothing left to give. The natural quality of the music draws from the experience of growing up in a quiet Midwestern town, while sincere and often heart wrenching lyrics express the emotion and conflict encountered along the way.</p>
<p><strong>Thu., Jan. 20<br />
Bryan Jones</strong></p>
<p><strong>Fri., Jan. 21<br />
Makia Groove<br />
</strong><a href="http://www.myspace.com/makiagroove" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/106/l_2f3e5ff7301bd2a8617eb641128e45c4.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="166" /></a><br />
A three piece ‘World/Funk/Fusion’ band consisting of Bass, Drums and Guitar.  Multi-instrumentalist’s, incorporating the Electronic Wind Instrument, Loop Pedals, Keyboards and Latin Perc. Formed in 1999 in Kingsport TN.</p>
<p><strong>Sat., Jan. 22<br />
Sumilan Band<br />
</strong><a href="http://www.myspace.com/sumilan" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/82/m_bb447c5872264234a017306869bec6aa.jpg" alt="" width="170" height="226" /></a><br />
Officially formed in Athens, GA, Sumilan draws influences that range from rock, electronica, funk, metal, and jazz with a high dosage of experimentation.</p>
<p><strong>Thu., Jan. 27<br />
Utah Green<br />
</strong><a href="http://www.myspace.com/greenutah" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/144/l_90d3458659f145ff9dd7d1e8ada92244.jpg" alt="" width="216" height="145" /></a><br />
Like a mountain angel born of a long forgotten backwoods American town, Utah Green is a quixotic and purely genuine—a simultaneously modern and ancient voice. Listen closely as she resonates, making the outside world go quiet for just a moment.</p>
<p><strong>Fri., Jan. 28<br />
Fifth On The Floor<br />
</strong><a href="http://www.myspace.com/fifthonthefloor" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://www.puresouthernrock.com/img/fifth-on-the-floor.jpg" alt="" width="270" height="137" /></a><br />
Fifth on the Floor started out like all good bands do: on a Friday night over a bottle of Jim Beam. After a few weeks of songwriting, lineup-changes, and hangovers, the grouping of Aaron Graham, Jason Parsons, Matty Rodgers, and Justin Wells solidified the group dynamic and sound that are instantly identifiable.</p>
<p><strong>Sat., Jan. 29</strong><br />

Carolina Rex (<em>C-Rex</em> to their fans), is built on a core of Texas Blues and guitar-legend rock. Of course, R&amp;B, funk, soul, new wave, metal, jazz and original music is all fair game too &#8211; as long as it grooves or rocks.</p>

Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29<br />

<p><strong>Fri., Dec. 3, 8:30 pm<br />
L Shaped Lot</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.myspace.com/lshapelot" target="_blank"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-296" title="L_Shape_Lot" src="http://townpumptavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/L_Shape_Lot-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p>
<p>“Their music is a laid-back mix of Americana, a loose blend of folk and bluegrass with rich harmonies. They’ve got a solid body of originals that moves from country sing-alongs and barroom stompers to narrative stories with great hooks. And best of all, they groove together like a band that’s been playing together for years. ” DB – High Country News</p>
<p>.</p>
<p><strong>Sat., Dec. 4<br />
Johnson’s Crossroad w/The Wild Rumpus</strong><br />
<a href="http://johnsonscrossroad.com/" target="_blank"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-297" title="Johnson's Crossroad" src="http://townpumptavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Johnsons-Crossroad-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Johnson&#8217;s Crossroad</span>: Formed some six years ago in the mountains of West Virginia and tested by over half a decade on the road, the passion that Minguez and Johnson share for their own acoustic crossroad – a meeting place of honest, soulful music that draws deeply from bluegrass, old country, and Appalachian old time &#8211; has brought Johnson’s Crossroad to the forefront of the North Carolina music scene.<a href="http://www.myspace.com/thewildrumpus" target="_blank"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-303" title="Wild Rumpus" src="http://townpumptavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Wild-Rumpus1-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The Wild Rumpus</span>: Wild Rumpus blends “traileresque” orchestral and operatic melodies with the stylings of authentic rock’n&#8217;roll, pop, and electronic music. It’s our own interpretation on trailer music that uses a rather unique approach to the composition and production of very slammin’ tracks.</p>
<p><strong>Thu., Dec. 9<br />
Screen Door Porch</strong><br />
<a href="http://screendoorporch.com/" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/hs466.snc4/50314_145259412192898_985964_n.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="133" /></a><br />
The duo of Screen Door Porch—Seadar Rose and Aaron Davis—deliver groove-injected Alt-Folk and soulful Americana, garnished with multi-instrumentation. This roots music combined with ambient textures, dirty slide guitar, and country-sweet harmonies outline a sound that is not quite acoustic.</p>
<p><strong>Sat., Dec. 11<br />
Hackens Boys</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.hackensboys.com/home.html" target="_blank"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-307" title="Hackens Boys" src="http://townpumptavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Hackens-Boys-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p>
<p>The Hackens Boys hit &#8220;Southern Rock Can&#8217;t Die&#8221; shares a spot with Molly Hatchet&#8217;s, &#8220;Somer&#8217;s Song&#8221; on the newly released Stone Ground and Southern Compilation; Vol. 5. Go to <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.swampland.com/" target="_blank">www.swampland.com</a> for more details on the compilation album and see The Hackens Boys album review!</p>

South 85</strong><br />
<a href="http://" target="_blank"><a href="http://www.myspace.com/south85band" target="_blank"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-336" title="South 85" src="http://townpumptavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/South-85-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></a></p>
<p><a href="http://" target="_blank"></a><br />
.</p>
<p>.</p>
<p>.</p>
<p>With roots deep in the Carolinas, South85 blends country, folk, southern rock, and bluegrass to give you a listening experience that you won&#8217;t soon forget. Driven by the original songwriting of Kathy Neal and the voice of Tracy Wyatt, South85 is in a classification all their own &#8211; radio worthy songs along with an atmosphere of a back-porch jam.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">The Pump&#8217;s weekly open mic, hosted by David Bryan, may be the venue for you to launch your path to fame and fortune.  Or, you may just make a fool of yourself and entertain your friends.  In any case, bring those friends, enjoy the best beer the region has to offer, and have a great time!</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Listen Like Thieves is eclectic pop/rock colored by banjo, mandolin and accordion, the alias of writer/multi-instrumentalist/producer Peter Rodocker. Drawing from rock, pop, indie and traditional Irish influences among many others, his sound is both foreign and familiar, while unapologetically hooky and accessible, with dynamic arrangements that flutter between complexity and sparcity, feeding off of the unique textures of their uncommon instrumentation.</p>

Delta Saints</strong></p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.myspace.com/thedeltasaints" target="_blank"><img class="alignnone" src="http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/hs333.snc4/41791_138304119549442_6946_n.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="89" /></a><br />
</strong></p>

<p><strong><img class="alignnone" src="http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/hs333.snc4/41790_131194363596469_7488_n.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="111" /><br />
</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.myspace.com/thetillersthree" target="_blank">The Tillers</a>: Musically, the band wears many hats. Their sound has proven to be an appropriate fit with a wide range of musical styles- traditional folk, bluegrass, jazz, punk rock and anything else they might run into.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.myspace.com/whiskeybentvalley" target="_blank">Whiskey Bent Valley Boys</a>: You name it, they’ll pick it. You can find them pickin’ from sun up to sun down, pounding out the swing dancing , foot stomping, hard driving tunes that’ll tickle your innards.</p>

Leigh Glass Band</strong></p>

Letters to Abigale</strong></p>
<p><strong><img class="alignnone" src="http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/hs454.snc4/50473_155425981147577_1345_n.jpg" alt="" width="170" height="127" /><br />

</strong></p>
<p>Melding together the traditional storytelling found in the works of people like Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash with the driving rhythms and harmonies of the celtic andamericana folklore, you get a band that has often been referred to as&#8230;well, &#8220;different.&#8221;</p>
